[On exactly one particular day, Violet receives a letter. It seems ordinary--paper envelope, paper letterhead, ink. The writing on the front of the envelope, however, is familiar, and when Violet recognizes it, she'll know this letter has been on quite a journey.

It has come across space and time, though it has only been marred by a single set of postal stamping.]

Violet Evergarden

[On the letter, she's greeted with the same neat, elegant font from the days of Ophelia:]

Miss Evergarden,

I hope this letter finds you at all, and I hope it finds you in good health and good company.

You told me once you had decided your birthday should be on August 25th. Our calendars differ, as expected of great lengths across space and time. Before I left with Adrian, I asked to be given one of your world's calendars.

I made a promise not to forget, so I'm writing to tell you I haven't forgotten.

Happy birthday, Violet.

It was an honor to know you regardless of how short the time. I apologize for not writing you more often as you said you enjoyed receiving letters. The battle with Adrian's father took most of my time. I hadn't been sure if the letters would reach you. I'm on the Frontier again, and I can write you periodically if you wish.

I'm unable to tell you my own age even if we agreed to share the birthday together. The years do not pass for me the same they may pass for you. It is sufficient for me to pass another year if it means I am able to write you this letter.

It is tradition on the Frontier you receive a cake or pie and presents in congratulations. I hope those there with you, your friends, give you something equally as enjoyable.

Your Friend,
D
